Wellkins, LuLu and Indian Doctors Club join hands for blood donation camp on June 10

Doha: Wellkins Medical Centre, LuLu group and Indian Doctors Club (IDC) will jointly conduct a blood donation drive to mark World Blood Donor Day.

The blood donation camp will be held at Wellkins Medical Centre located at Ramada Signal, opposite to Westin Salwa Road on Friday (June 10) from 8am to 2pm.

World Blood Donor Day is an international awareness day initiated by World Health Organisation takes place on  June 14 each year to raise global awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion.  For 2022, the World Blood Donor Day slogan is ‘Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives’ to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.

The official announcement of the camp and launching of donor registration were held at LuLu Hypermarket D Ring Road last week in the presence of the officials of Indian Doctors Club, Dr. Biju Gafoor (President), Dr. Anwar Mohamed (Vice-President), Dr. Thomas David (Joint Secretary), Dr. Riny Shoukath (Cultural Secretary), Representatives of Lulu group, Krishnakumar (General Manager- LuLu D Ring Road), Rafi VS (Admin Manager), Mohammed Shihab (Marketing Manager), and representatives of Wellkins Medical Centre Dr. Sameer Moopan (Chairman & Managing Director), Rejil Jacob (Head-Sales & Marketing) and Vishnu Prasad KS (Lead-Media & Community Activities).

Talking about the initiative, Dr. Biju Gafoor said, “We are pleased to conduct this blood donation camp for HMC Blood Donor Center.  Donating blood is a noble gesture for the community. Giving blood can be a life-saving action, but it may also have benefits for the donor.”

Mohammed Shihab said, “We are joining this event is part of our group’s continued efforts to give back to the society and support those in need. This social initiative also fosters a culture of voluntary blood donation, which can in turn save lives.”

“There is an increasing demand for donated blood, especially of the rare types. However, this demand would not be met without the help of the public. Donating blood takes only a few minutes of our time but makes an immeasurable difference to those in need of it. It can save between three to five lives,” said Dr. Sameer Moopan.
